Abstract
This study was carried out to make sure the ecological characteristics and epidemiology of peach powdery mildew in Chonbuk province in Korea.
The pathogen on the surface of infected peach fruits was identified as Sphaerotheca pannosa and the disease incidence is reported for the first time in Korea. The disease symptoms on the surface of peach fruit occurs from young fruit stage to harvesting time. The small white colony on the surface of infected fruit in the early stage becomes brown or dark brown and result in cracking at harvest. The fluctuation of disease occurrences shows the maximum in mid-to late-May. The most susceptible alternate host plant was wild rose (Rosa multiJlora THUNB). Powdery mildew was controlled effectively by the application of fungicides comprising Myclobutanil Wp, Fenarimol Ec, Thiophanatemethyl Wp, Triadimefon Wp, Benomyl Wp and by Bagging of fruit.
